Conceptualising and blueprinting digital badge pathways

The Mozilla Foundation has played a pivotal role in shaping the world-wide web. Ardcairn founder, Grainne Hamilton, was contracted by the Mozilla Foundation in 2014 to work with the team that created the Open Badge standard (that is credited with seeding the skills credentials movement) to conceptualise and develop blueprints for tools and processes that would aid pathways to employment for underpriviledged youth.

Conducting research on factors affecting uptake of employment and other positive life opportunities by youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, the team created the concept, blueprints and a prototype for Digital Badge Pathways. The blueprints demonstrated how career pathways could be signposted by employers and how individuals could use digital badges that recognised learning they had gained anywhere and at anytime, to follow pathways towards learning and employment opportunities.
